Start by replacing 25% of the current feed with Hungry Eyes fresh dog food from day 1-3, during each meal time.
Increase this quantity to 50% for days 4-7 and day 8 onwards, you could feed a 100% of Hungry Eyes fresh dog food.
Please note the above is a basic guideline, some dogs take to fresh food instantly and some may take a few more days.
When you adopt a rescued dog, it is difficult to know what they were eating before getting home to you. In this case it is easier to feed them fresh food, however, it may take a week to 10 days for their system to settle. So expect loose stools during this period.
We have a feeding guideline you could refer to based on your dog’s weight. It explains the principle behind quantity of dog feed based on weight, age & activity levels. We have also given a guideline for special diets for your dog, to help you choose the right meal type for your pup.
You can start feeding a puppy from the age of 2 months onwards, until then, it is best for the puppy to be on their mother’s milk.
Our natural pet foods need to be refrigerated. All our products (except bone broth) are vacuum packed to retain freshness and increase the shelf life naturally. The dog meals and only meat category stores in the refrigerator for 10 days and freezer for 30 days. Organ meats & chews, stores only in the refrigerator for 30 days, once pack is open the treats are to be fed within 15 days.
The use by date will be mentioned for refrigerating and freezing our food on the label.
If there is no use by date for freezing, please only refrigerate. This applies to our organ meats & chews which do not require freezing.
If you choose to store our meals in the freezer; please note the best thawing practise for food safety:
Shift the food pack from freezer to refrigerator 24-36 hours prior to feed time.
If you choose to refrigerate our food, you can always serve the food directly off the refrigerator onto their bowl.
If you choose to serve our food warm to your puppy, please transfer the food from the vacuum sealed pack to a microwave safe container and heat the food for 30 to 90 seconds, depending on the quantity of food.
If you would like to avoid warming up the food in the microwave, please keep the food out of the refrigerator (in room temperature) for 30-60 minutes before serving the food to your pup.
Note: Please do not dip our food packets into hot water for heating.
For Meals
Once the vacuum seal is open, have the meals served within 24-48hours. The meal still needs to be refrigerated in an airtight container or sealed with a clip on the vacuum pack.
For Cooked Meats/ Only Meat
Once the vacuum seal is open, the plain cooked meats for pets will stay fresh for 5 days with clean, dry handling. Continue refrigerating the cooked meats in a dry container for a 5 day shelf life. If pack is sealed with food package clips, it may last only 3 days.
For organ meats & chews.
Once pack is open, transfer contents to an airtight container and continue refrigerating. The treats will remain fresh for 15 days in the refrigerator with clean, dry handling.
For Bone Broth
After thawing also the broths will remain fresh & ready to serve for 5 days in the refrigerator.
Our fresh dog food stays best only in an insulated ice box for a 3-4 hour drive and once at your destinantion, have the food refrigerated.
For a 5-8 hour trip, please pack in ice gel packs in the insulated ice box and once at the destination, have the food refrigerated.
For the longer journeys of 9-12 hours or more, if time permits, store the food in the freezer upon receiving the order, for the journey, pack in some ice gel packs in the insulated box and once at your destinantion, have the food stored in the freezer. Thaw the food as mentioned in point 5, for best practices of thawing any food.
