Our search for natural remedies for dog’s gut health
We struggled with sensitive skin and stomach in dogs with our very own pet. An Indie, who has food intolerances, seasonal allergies and a sensitive tummy. First, we did an elimination diet to rule out food intolerances. This was specifically targeted to eliminate the protein causing the above mentioned signs. We found our dog to be intolerant to chicken & eggs. Second, we fed our dog a low carb grain free diet. This helped us identify the vegetables that caused a peak in his itching, even when fed moderately. Basically all the starch or sugar rich foods like grain, potatoes, carrot, green peas, beetroot. If you notice the vegetable list includes some of the best prebiotics for dogs. And of course, during seasonal changes we reluctantly administered steroids for him since that gave him the most relief, no matter how short lived.
